Stuff & Our Beach

Since we are on the beach, there are the obvious activities.... swimming, boogie boarding, surfing and shell collecting; all outside your front door. A pleasant surprise for a small village of this size is the cuisine. There are several local as well as international-style restaurants serving fresh fish, shrimp, and lobster. Some of our restaurants even offer American-style hamburgers, BBQ ribs, Cornish game hens, and chicken cordon bleu! La Puesta del Sol is within easy walking distance to most of these places.
If hanging out at the pool sipping margaritas is considered time well spent, we are a 4 minute walk to the Tropic Beach Club (no admission, just buy a drink or something). Currently Tuesdays and Thursdays are "pamper yourself days". Pedicures and manicures offer the perfect break from that tempting hammock at La Puesta del Sol. It's rough out here in the jungle!
Mountain bike and surfboard rentals are locally available along with guided jungle, cave or surf spot trips.
Surf spots.....
Troncones Beach.... right out
our front door
Manzanilla / Troncones Point.... nice left
Mahagua Point.... another nice left
River Mouth (north of Mahagua).... lefts and rights
Saladitas.... left point break
Secret Spot aka Chicos.... lefts and rights
Rio Nexpa.... 70 miles north
Day shopping trips into Zihuatanejo / Ixtapa can be arranged with our friendly English speaking taxi drivers.
Sea turtles (tortugas) are quite common on our beach. On full moon nights in the late summer, Leatherbacks and Green tortugas come on shore to lay their eggs.
Bird watching on our coast, lagoons, and foothills provide a wide variety for birders from parrots to eagles, owls to hummingbirds, even the novice will enjoy and easily spot many species.
About Our Beach
La Puesta del Sol is located on the sandy portion of 3 mile long Troncones beach. Obviously, since we have been talking about boogie boarding and surfing, the beach is not a quiet little bay. Generally the access to the water is a long gentle slope, gradually getting deeper. Kids and novice swimmers can have a good time in the shallow entrance, but never let your kids swim alone. There are no lifeguards here and you are on the open ocean. Please use common sense and practice safety.

The Christmas Children's Posada has been a yearly event since 1992. The children of the village dress up on Christmas Eve in traditional Posada costumes and travel up the beach singing Mexican Christmas carols. It all culminates with the kids getting to see Santa (the last few years played by Victor, our local Santa in disguise). The Gringos (that's us) provide many piñatas full of treats for the kids to "break".
