Troncones is a rural fishing village of about 300 people. Not a single animal appears to be fenced in. This includes burros, horses, cows, goats, pigs, turkeys and chickens. A walk through the town definitely provides the chance to see domesticated animals in all their natural glory. We have a church in progress, a pool hall, a graveyard, soccer field, and various little tiendas (stores) selling the basic necessities. There are often local fiestas and weddings in which everyone on the beach is invited. Needless to say....it's a friendly town.

Wake up to the sound of the ocean. Blue sky all around you, save the far off clouds which always crown the Sierra mountains to the east. The glassy morning Pacific Ocean sparkles in the yellow gold sunlight. Take a walk on the fresh, tide swept sand and watch the pelicans dive behind the breaking waves. Scan the horizon for the tell tale water spouts of whales passing by.

Sip your morning coffee and enjoy a little breakfast at one of the nearby restaurants while planning just what adventure you'll experience today. A horseback ride through the jungle? Or a walk up the beach to check out the tide pools? Then lunch alfresco on fresh red snapper or lobster.

After a massage followed by the compulsory siesta, you'll want a late afternoon swim to get you ready for the nights beginning. As the sun sets, you might want to try the famous Troncones margaritas. The flocks of pelicans that began your day now end it as they head south down the coast for their nightly resting place. You watch the sky slowly turn into the blues and reds of dusk and scan the horizon for the elusive "green flash" (nothing to do with the margaritas) just as the sun disappears into the far off waves.

Little by little the stars and planets take shape in the black sky. Orion and Venus twinkle on the waters surface and the moon rises as the fireflies play in the grass. A candle lit dinner with the sand beneath your feet and good conversation that always follows a happy day. As the evening ends, you walk down our country lane under the star-filled sky, so bright it lights your way home to La Puesta del Sol.

As you lie in your bed, the gentle night sounds of the tropical geckos and crickets chirp in harmony with the ocean waves promising another perfect day tomorrow.

We purchased La Puesta del Sol (The Sunset) in 1993. At that time, the house was a typical palapa (a roof made of palm fronds) beach restaurant. We were content to let it operate as such under the watchful eye of Doña Nica (a celebrated cook in the village), who continued to dish up the daily catch and the best oysters in town.

In 1994, after a very interesting night trying to sleep in one of the restaurant's storage rooms, we decided to add a room for us to stay in when we were in town. One simple idea led to another.... Why not a place for our friends too?.... Then why not a room or two to rent as well?.... A year and a half later we had a beautiful two story building with a palapa-shaded roof sundeck. We added a few coco palms, some banana trees, and the largest lawn in Troncones. Doña Nica now has her own restaurant a short walk up the beach.
